Egypt’s Tourism Sector Grows 25% in 2025, Reaching Pre-Pandemic Peak

Egypt’s tourism sector has defied regional instability, recording a 25% surge in arrivals in early 2025 and welcoming a record 15.8 million visitors in 2024 — a 21% rise above pre-pandemic levels — as part of a national strategy to boost economic growth through inclusive, community-driven tourism.

Despite ongoing geopolitical challenges in the region, Egypt’s tourism sector is witnessing an unprecedented surge, positioning the country as a resilient and thriving destination in global travel.

New data released by the Egyptian Cabinet’s Media Center reveals a 25% rise in tourist arrivals during the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year. The nation welcomed 15.8 million visitors in 2024, marking a 21% increase above pre-pandemic levels — a record that underscores the sector’s robust recovery and strategic expansion.

Government officials attribute this growth to Egypt’s comprehensive tourism development strategy, which focuses on economic inclusion, skill development, and community empowerment. The approach, promoted under the slogan “Egypt… Unrivaled Diversity,” aims to deliver a more inclusive and sustainable tourism experience while maximizing direct benefits for local citizens.

The strategy also places strong emphasis on building human capital by enhancing the skills of tourism workers and involving local communities as key stakeholders in the industry’s development.
