Serbia and Somalia Strengthen Diplomatic and Security Ties

Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Ðurić and Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi held talks on Tuesday, reinforcing diplomatic relations and expanding cooperation across key sectors.

During the discussion, Ðurić expressed gratitude for Somalia’s support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and reaffirmed Serbia’s respect for Somalia’s sovereignty. He emphasized the longstanding friendship between the two nations, rooted in the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement and the UN Charter.

Both ministers highlighted growing security cooperation, with Serbia training Somalia’s elite forces, including the presidential guard, and providing specialized programs for the Somali police force. Education also featured prominently, as Serbia continues to offer scholarships to Somali students, with plans for further expansion.

Since Somalia reopened its embassy in Serbia, diplomatic and economic ties have deepened, particularly in security, education, and investment. Minister Fiqi reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to strengthening these ties, while Serbia acknowledged the role of Somalia’s Ambassador to Serbia, Mohamed Abdullahi Ahmed, in fostering bilateral relations.

This engagement signals a renewed commitment to long-term diplomatic and economic collaboration between the two nations.
