Busoga’s Kyabazinga Joins Ivy League Ranks with Yale Master’s Degree

New Haven, USA – The Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdom, His Majesty William Gabula Nadiope IV, has graduated with a Master of Advanced Studies in Global Affairs from the prestigious Yale University’s Jackson School of Global Affairs.

The achievement marks his second master’s degree, magnifying his continued commitment to education and leadership at both national and global levels.

The news has sparked waves of celebration across Busoga and beyond, with thousands of his subjects and Ugandan admirers flooding social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), WhatsApp, and Instagram with messages of congratulations and pride.

Kyabazinga, who is already a holder of an MBA in Management from Coventry University in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Kyambogo University in Uganda, is also currently in his third year of doctoral studies in Strategic Management at the University of Portsmouth in the UK.

According to sources within the Busoga Royal Palace, the Kyabazinga earned a full-board merit-based scholarship from Yale University to pursue this latest academic milestone.

His Majesty now joins a select group of global leaders, such as Nelson Mandela, former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton, George H. W. Bush, and George W. Bush, and current U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, who have passed through the Ivy League institution, which is consistently ranked among the top five universities in the United States and top ten globally.

“This degree is timely and essential. It positions His Majesty to make meaningful contributions to pressing global issues such as malaria eradication, combating teenage pregnancies, and raising awareness on hydrocephalus—areas where he already holds national ambassadorial roles,” said Owek Babirye Yudaya, Minister for Kyabazinga Affairs.

What we know so far

The Kyabazinga has been a prominent advocate of education, particularly among youth in Uganda.

His academic journey, carried out alongside his royal duties, is seen as a powerful example of how cultural leadership can blend with intellectual pursuit to inspire socio-economic transformation.

According to Prince Wanume Paul, a lecturer at Uganda Management Institute (UMI), the King’s achievement reinforces his vision for a modern and enlightened monarchy.

“He is not only uniting the kingdom through cultural values but also using his education to attract development and global partnerships,” he said.

In a show of solidarity and pride, the Kyabazinga was joined at the graduation ceremony by his wife, Her Royal Highness the Inhebantu Jovia Mutesi Nadiope, as well as key members of the Busoga Kingdom, including Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Muvawala, the hereditary chief of Butembe Prince Walugembe Frederick, and State Minister for Finance (Busoga Kingdom) Ivan Kiirya.

His Majesty received commendation from professors at Yale for completing the rigorous program in record time and with distinction, all while managing his duties as a traditional leader.

The Kyabazinga credits his academic drive to his parents: his late mother, Josephine Mpata Nadiope, a water and environmental engineer from the University of Florida, and his father, Prof. Arnold Wilson Nadiope III, who earned a doctorate from George Washington University.

As His Majesty returns to his royal duties, he does so not just as a cultural figurehead but as a global thought leader equipped with the tools to make impactful contributions to both Busoga and Uganda’s broader development agenda.
